What is a map?
Not the ordinance survey! A map is a string of numbers, which your vehicle turns into timing positions and fuel amounts for a specific load and throttle position.
What is a remap?
A remap is basically optimising you engines ignition timing and fuelling. Mass production engines are all built to a tolerance but two engines are never the same, the engine map is written for a general specification and is not specific to any engine. A Response remap looks at the original map and then writes a specific map to suit your vehicle, the map is not generic it is tailored to your engine. Your map wont suit your friend’s car even if they are the same makes, model and year.
How does it work?
By changing the figures in the map we can change the fuel amount and the timing, this in turn gives more power and better driveability.
How long does it take?
Most remaps take between 1 hour and 3 hours depending on your vehicle and how much information is stored within the ECU.
Does it affect my warranty?
The Response remap doesn’t directly affect your vehicles warranty although on some very rare occasions the remap has been removed during service at a main dealer. We can reinstall your map at a nominal charge.
What if I want to return my car to standard?
We keep a copy of your original file that can be put back on your car at your request; there is a small charge for this usually £75.
Will it affect my insurance?
With all modifications it is your responsibility to inform your insurance company if you wish.
What kind of guarantee do I get?
GMM has been established for 10 years working in conjunction with Response we make sure that customer satisfaction is our number one priority you have the comfort of using an excellent product with a dealer network backup.
How much power will I get?
We try and tell you what to expect before we start work, with a turbo diesel you could expect up to 50 BHP more and another 40-60FtLb of torque, with a naturally aspirated petrol car then it may just be 8-13BHP and 10 Ftlb of torque. But what you really gain is the drivability all our customers are blown away by the improvement, and don’t forget our money back promise if you can't feel a noticeable difference.
What happens if I have other modifications?
With modified vehicles we look at how the engine is running with the changes you have made and modify the map to suit.
What if I don't like the idea of you changing the ecu settings?
We understand that some of our customers don’t like the idea of changing the ecu information. If you have a diesel or a turbo diesel why not think about the TUNIT option. No changes to you car just a neat little box that changes the information going to the fuel pump.
The main advantage of the TUNIT over a remap is the ability to remove the box as and when you want. Company car owners like them as many of the kits are transferable to the next vehicle or can be resold when the vehicle is changed.
How much does it cost?
As with all things in life you get what you pay for, other remaps and add on boxes are cheaper. However, Response and Tunit both offer fantastic value for money for the research and product quality.
Response remaps start at £300 depending on your vehicle
TUNIT systems start around £350.
